Semester(s) with Coach: 7
How do I make this short? Megan and my daughter were teammates at a D3 Christian College. Presumably friends. Due to their coaches transfer to another college, Megan became the coach of the team my daughter’s fifth year. Prior to this Megan and my daughter were two of the best players on the team. In addition to other records, Megan held the home run record at 18. My daughter had 17 when the season began. Instead of utilizing my daughter‘s talent, she sat her on the bench for half the games of the season. My daughter finally broke the home run record (22) which was quite an accomplishment given she had 65 fewer at bats for her college career due to a season ending injury her 2nd yr and Covid ending the season her 3rd. The biggest insult, however, was in her final college game ever - her last opportunity to play on the field she had come to love - Megan sat her on the bench for BOTH games. What Megan did not realize at the time was that everyone (players, parents, school admin) saw what she did and lost respect for her as a Coach. Keep in mind that this was a Christian college where not only is the coach supposed to be a role model, but she is supposed to put petty jealousy aside. In the end, Character is far more important than winning games and Megan clearly failed in that department.
